Artist Statement
As an artist who moved from Japan, my work is deeply influenced by my search for identity and adaptation to a new environment. My art reflects my personal journey through emotional and abstract expression, representing a narrative story as a self-portrait. I utilize a wide range of techniques, including pencil drawing, photography, printmaking, and watercolor, to explore the complexities of my experiences and evolving sense of self.
My works combine elements of my children’s portraits and nature—such as trees, skies, and clouds—with subconscious imagery. This integration allows me to blend realism with abstract elements, evoking a range of emotions and capturing the profound changes I’ve undergone. Subconscious motifs help me communicate deeper layers of my inner world, enabling a more nuanced and personal expression.
In addition to my art, I have led workshops for children, providing them with creative experiences and guiding their artistic exploration. As an illustrator, I have also published children’s books and worked on various illustrative projects. By intertwining these elements, I strive to create pieces that resonate with the beauty of my surroundings and the emotional depth of my journey. Through these self-portraits, I aim to convey the essence of my identity, reflecting both my past experiences and present self. This ongoing exploration of self-expression and identity through art serves as a means to connect with others and share the unique perspective that comes from navigating both personal and cultural transitions.
